People and animals say I’m easy to talk to, that I’m a good listener. And they’re not wrong. I love the work I do and am privileged to work with so many amazing people. I take very seriously the responsibility to help and the need to connect. I want to heal trauma. Not cause trauma.

We can laugh together and cry together. We can talk about big deals and small potatoes - dig in to the heavy stuff and also be light-hearted. We can explore everything from the wiring of your brain to the wonders of the world. I have been working in the field of trauma since 2003, beginning as a volunteer at a crisis center and as an advocate for sexual assault survivors. I received my Master’s Degree of Social Work in 2007 and worked at the MSU Sexual Assault Program from 2008 - 2015. Since 2015, I have been in private practice. My area of expertise is trauma, including sexual abuse and relationship violence, harassment, and attachment-related trauma. I also specialize in working with transgender adolescents and adults, many who need help and support as they navigate medical services. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing, which research has shown to be an especially helpful treatment for complex trauma. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. My approach to treatment and particular style can change based on who I’m working with, but it is always trauma-informed, person-centered and evidence-based. Our society often prescribes a narrow definition of happiness and success that makes it hard to ask for help, even harder to see strength and wisdom in suffering. But I believe our entire experience is important and gives meaning to who we are and how we find purpose and belonging. I believe that people know the answers to their problems but often need a space to talk openly and honestly - to be heard and acknowledged. And chocolate - people need chocolate. I have that too.

Personal strengths include finding the most amazing rocks along the beach and telling fascinating stories about each one. For hours. Personal challenges include being on time to anything ever - but not because I don’t value time. I just over-estimate my capacity and under-estimate physics.

Insurances accepted include: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Priority Health, Sparrow PHP, McLaren, Meridian, and Magellan.

Hello, I am Morgan, and want to extend a warm welcome! In my clinical practice, I am committed to creating a well-informed, non-judgemental space to decompress, process, and heal through life’s tough stuff. I am passionate about supporting you in whatever way you need. Some moments that might look like approaching and addressing the tough stuff, others it might look more like laughing together and appreciating all of the lessons learned along the way.

My approach is largely person centered, stemming from the belief that all who walk into my office are experts in their own lives. I utilize several evidence-based strategies to inform my therapeutic process but am adaptable and flexible based on your need. I always provide my clients frequent check-in’s to ensure that the path we are on is working best for you. I have a tendency to lean to a holistic form of counseling, focusing on healing the body, brain and spirit as one unit. We may focus on the way the body harnesses all that it has been through, and how we can provide healing for ourselves by teaming up.

I have been working as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor since May of 2019. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience from Michigan State University in 2015, followed by my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2019.

I work with teens, adults, and families who present with many concerns to include anxiety, PTSD, depression, parenting concerns, attachment concerns and general life transitions. I am certified in EMDR, Circle of Security Parenting (COSP), and Circle of Security Master Class for teachers (COSP-C) and love any opportunity for ongoing education!

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my husband young son and very very sweet dog. I love to read, and lately have been diving back into the fantasy literature. I look forward to a future filled with time spent outside with my family and reading good books!

Hi there, I’m Denae and I’m so glad you’re here. I believe that healing is not only an individual journey but also a collective one. My approach to therapy is holistic and transpersonal, which acknowledges the interconnectedness of all things and focuses on mind, body, and energy/spirit together. Sessions are always client-centered – whatever feels most central to you and your life is what we focus on. I often bring in somatic practices to foster self-awareness. This means we may work on identifying signals from your body that can help you with emotional regulation and building resilience in the face of challenges.

I welcome people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences including queer and trans folks, those living with addictions, people who are experiencing grief, parents, individuals who have been incarcerated, folks who have experienced trauma, any and every body.

Whether you’ve seen therapists before and are searching for a new one or you’re new to therapy all together, it would be my pleasure to connect with you!

Jacob Higman

He/Him/His

Hello, my name is Jacob, but I also go by Jake. I am passionate about working with people who are living with mental and physical health conditions. Currently my area interest has been on anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, ptsd, disability, chronic pain, and people who have been traumatized by the healthcare system. I am an ally of the LGBTQ community and a feminist. The reason I chose therapy as my career path is because I am a beneficiary of therapy, and helping people feel better has always made my life more meaningful. My personal mission is to help make people feel understood and validated. I am here to provide a listening ear for those in need by using empathic listening/connected knowledge; putting my biases aside to try to understand what it must be like from the client’s personal perspective. I believe that by becoming more authentic with ourselves, we can live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I have a Bachelor’s of Social Work accredited by Eastern Michigan University. Currently, I am on my last year of my Master’s Degree for Social Work at Michigan State University. My long-term goal is to become a Licensed Mental Health counselor holding a LMSW. My experience in health and human services includes working in the field of geriatrics, addiction, and homelessness. As a caregiver I helped many older adults who struggle with abilities and mental health conditions in some of their most vulnerable states which taught me humility, patience, and creative thinking patterns to help clients find meaning and purpose even within hospice. As an intern I worked 400 hours of training at a detox facility with many clients that had comorbid mental health conditions. At the facility I learned value of social support, connection, and open mindedness. Lastly, working as a shelter coordinator I learned about the paradox of poverty as well as invaluable crisis intervention strategies I could use when clients were too overwhelmed to function in the program. As a coordinator I was part of a team that helped families find more permanent stable homes. Many of my previous clients had differences in physical, financial, and mental abilities/limitations, but all of them had intrinsic value.

Unpacking our burdens takes time and varies from person to person. Therefore, I believe in checking in with my clients to make sure they are okay. Only preceding with therapy cautiously when they are ready. Every session is individualized. People are different. We have different strengths and weaknesses, different triggers, and traumas. Together we can move towards the healing process by creating a safe place, learning, and implementing coping strategies, therapeutic frameworks, and self-compassion practices. We are not our burdens. Some important outcomes people choose to address in therapy include improving their quality life and discovering more about themselves that they did not consciously know; albeit our needs vary, and we can search for what your goals are, even if you haven’t figured it out yet.

I’ve been told my easy-going, approachable spirit provides quick comfort for those I encounter along my path. Whether it’s humans, trees, or little critters strolling the landscape, I can’t seem to help but beam with love and curiosity for all of life. Trust me - this isn’t because I have lived some seamless walk-in-the-park existence. In fact, it’s growing through the depths of my gut-wrenching heartaches, gnawing mistakes, and bold transitions that have allowed compassion to be my guide.

I am guessing you found me because you are going through a heartache or transition yourself. Well, I am glad you’re here. Healing and change is possible - not always easy (let’s face it, it’s basically NEVER easy) - but it is possible. My approach is to walk alongside you and provide a safe, therapeutic connection, so that you can more easily tap into your inner wisdom and fortitude.

Emotional distress often occurs when we sway from our authentic selves. To bolster your vitality, we can explore your joys, sorrows, regrets, successes, resentments, fears, and longings. Unhealed trauma and repeated avoidance also limits us from living our fullest lives. Using trauma-responsive, evidence-based strategies, I invite you to explore, heal, and integrate your trauma experiences. It is in acknowledging the many parts of ourselves that we rediscover our wholeness.

Aside from loving this beautiful “work” I’m honored to do as a therapist, I can be found hiking, submerged in a body of water, dancing (this is a recent discovery and I have zero rhythm, but moving my body is HEALING!), reading, traveling and laying flat on the Earth. My number one joy in life is being a DAD!

*To my LGBTQIA+ Family: I am a Certified Gender Identity Therapist who works with ages 16-116. It’s never too early or too late to embrace your truth <3 **

Hi there, I’m Claire. I’m glad you are here! Your story and your healing are deeply important, and I look forward to partnering with you on your journey.

My practice is person-centered and trauma-informed, and we’ll work together to create a space where you feel safe, validated, and supported. I emphasize attachment- and strengths-based approaches when working with clients, and like to borrow elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to support our work together. I have experience working with adolescents and young adults, and have a passion for supporting those impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, as well as folks who are neurodivergent and/or managing chronic illness.

I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from Michigan State, focusing my studies and experiences on violence prevention and intervention. I have previously held positions with several sexual assault and domestic violence agencies throughout Ingham County, in residential and shelter environments, and in higher ed settings.

When I’m not working, I enjoy tending to my garden, reading, baking, and adventuring with friends and my goofy pup, Juniper.

I look forward to connecting with you!

I have a strong belief that we are dynamic creatures, ebbing and flowing with what life sends our way. We can take pleasure in the rhythm and joys of life, while also encountering hardships that seem to prevent us from moving forward. I hope to offer support through these blissful and trying times.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work degree at Michigan State University with a focus on evidence-based trauma treatment. I received my BA in psychology and gender studies from Kalamazoo College. As an undergraduate, I was involved in the 2SLGBTQIA+ student organization on campus and spent six months studying abroad in Nairobi, Kenya. After graduating, I spent over a decade in education teaching a variety of subjects to people of all ages and backgrounds, including English as a second language in China and environmental education in New England.

As I transition into social work, my passions lie in helping others recover from PTSD. I am currently being trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which can help us change our relationship with our thoughts and navigate difficult emotions. My trauma-informed approach is always person-centered and tailored to individual needs – let me meet you where you are at! I am particularly dedicated to serving the queer community, not only through empathy and affirmation, but navigating day-to-day experiences and accessing community resources. I also hope to support anyone affected by depression, anxiety, substance use, interpersonal conflict and violence, and hoarding disorder.

To rest and recharge I love being outdoors and enjoy watching documentaries, listening to National Public Radio, and getting lost in podcasts.

May you be happy, healthy, safe, and live with ease!
